Tourist Information Office
The Tourist Information Office is located in this old timber barn, which is the first thing you will encounter upon entering the Cobalt Works. Here you can find information, buy tickets or visit the kiosk, shop or restroom.
If you are visiting the Cobalt Works and Mines for the first time, we recommend that you start your visit at the Tourist Information Office. Here you will be able to talk to one of our hosts, who will be pleased to advise you on what you will be able to experience. Here you can buy tickets to any exhibitions you wish to visit. We also have a huge selection of brochures, both for things to do here and also in the surrounding region. This is Modum Municipality’s official tourist information office, and is authorised by the Norwegian Hospitality Association.
The Tourist Information Office has a small selection of books, blue glass and souvenir products, and you can find more of these in our other shops. If you would like to start or end your visit with a cup of coffee and an ice cream or sweet treat, we also have a pleasant outside café area here. We also sell home-made food which you can take home with you here, including pickled herring in jars, Mine Cheese, and much more. If you look at our chilled section and freezer, you are bound to find something to tempt you.
The building which is now the Tourist Information Office was built in the 18th century. It originally stood in Werp Farm, on the municipal border between Modum and Øvre Eiker, but was dismantled and rebuilt here in 2009. When the Cobalt Works were in operation, the storage warehouse for finished cobalt pigment stood here. That building burned down in 1947.
As well as the Tourist Information Office, our administration offices are also housed here.
