Art exhibition 2021

Summer Fairy Tales

The National Museums had a challenge, and we solved it. The summer of 2021 we will fill our galleries with highlights from the National Museums collection of art. This is the largest collaboration between the two museums by date.

Great news on the exhibition programme of 2021!

Highlights from the National Museums collection from 1814-1905.

Our founder and CEO Tone Sinding Steinsvik turns 80 years old in 2021, and this exhibition will reflect hers and the museums solid work on lifting art from the golden age to a wide range of audience.

We want to give the audience a possibility to wander between rooms and experience the highlights of the National Museums collection while we re waiting for their new museum to open. This will be a joy of reunion with our local, national and Nordic treassures of art.

Art has always been an integral part of the Cobalt Works. The Haugfossen waterfalls and the surrounding landscapes have inspired Norwegian and Nordic artists to visit the Cobalt Works.  In 1883 the Norwegian painter Frits Thuloe gathered a group of young artists here for his painting academy.

Therefore the Cobalt Works became an important scene in Norwegian art towards the  end of the 1800’s. It was Thaulows painting school that inspired the the couple Kjell and Tone Steinsvik to start showing art exhibitions at the museum.

With this exhibition we want to raise the awareness and interest in golden age art, something we have worked on for 45 years.

The opening of the summer season and the art exhibition is May 8th, 2021.
